10:00 am – Brief Program and Walk

On Ostomy Awareness Day, to raise awareness of ostomies and increase national visibility for those living with ostomies, CBMC’s Ostomy Nurses invite staff, patients and community members to an educational fair and outdoor walk around the CBMC Walking Trail.

Ostomy surgery is a life-saving procedure. There are approximately 100,000 ostomy surgeries performed annually in the United States. Such reasons for surgery include: bladder and colorectal cancer, abdominal trauma, complications from Crohn’s disease, ulcerated colitis and diverticulitis as well as congenital diseases. Those living with ostomies along with their families and loved ones demonstrate strength and resilience every day and today we gather to celebrate this community.
