Pressure Points in Special Education- Intersection of Legal and Clinical Issues

Topic: Extended School Year (ESY)

Date/Time: Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 6:30pm to 8:00 pm ET

Session 1 of this special education series is presented by:

  • Paul Prior, Hinkle, Prior & Fischer, Disability Rights Attorneys
  • Heidi Spiegel, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Children’s Specialized Hospital

About this session:

Many parents and educators believe that Extended School Year (ESY) is only for students who lose skills during summer (regress) and struggle to recover them in fall. However, ESY may be necessary for severe disabilities, interruptions in instruction, or exposure to peers without disabilities during the summer months. This session will explore eligibility, the laws, and best practices for ESY services, including the importance of promoting generalization of skills throughout the year.
