  • Dr. Hill is the newest member of Dr. Shen’s team at Shen Spine. He is a board-eligible neurological surgeon who obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 2007, his Neuroscience Ph.D. in 2013 at the University of California, Davis, and his MD at New York University in 2016. He completed residency in neurological surgery at New York University in 2023, followed by a fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at the University of Washington. Dr. Hill specializes in treating conditions of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, including spondylosis, stenosis, radiculopathies, and myelopathy. When surgical intervention is necessary, his goal is to provide his patients with the least-invasive surgery possible to address their problem. He has extensive experience with endoscopic approaches to the spine and believes that, for suitable pathology, there is no better choice. He joined the Shen Spine team so that he could continue to focus on providing his patients with the best spine care possible through use of the most minimally invasive surgical techniques.

    Philosophy of Care:

Often, neck and back problems are temporary and can be managed non-operatively. For patients whose symptoms are persistent despite structured non-operative care, surgery may help. I work with my patients to ensure that they understand their pathology and its relationship to their symptoms, and to help them identify additional non-surgical treatments that they may not have tried. When surgery is necessary, I take the time to explain the treatment options and associated risks, as well as what to expect before, during and after surgery. My expertise lies with ultra minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery because it allows me to precisely target my surgical treatment while disrupting as little of the normal anatomy as possible. For my patients, this means less postoperative pain and a faster recovery that helps them get back to living their lives, which is why I went into medicine in the first place.
