Dr. Eisenstat was born in New York City. He attended Vanderbilt University and New York Medical College and subsequently trained in surgery at Thomas Jefferson and the. Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. After completing his military obligation as a Major in the Army Medical Corps, he joined the faculty at the University of Maryland as assistant professor surgery,
Following a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery in 1977, with Gene Salvati, (Robert Wood Johnson) in New Jersey, he then joined him in practice. He was program director for the Robert Wood Johnson Colon and Rectal surgical residency program for 11 years. Dr. Eisenstat joined the RWJ full time faculty as a Professor of Surgery in 2013. He is a past president of the American Board of Colon and rectal Surgery, as well as the New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey Societies of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Eisenstat is past Vice President of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
