Dr. Otakar Hubschmann has been on staff at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center for more than 20 years. He is a graduate of the Charles University Medical School, Prague, Czechoslovakia and received his surgical and neurosurgical training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
Prior to joining Cooperman Barnabas, he was a full professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark and engaged in federally funded research. He is Board Certified in Neurosurgery and has contributed significantly to the current understanding of the mechanisms of certain types of brain hemorrhage. Dr. Hubschmann is responsible for creating a strong Division of Neurosurgery at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center with a Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit and has helped to develop Cooperman Barnabas as one of the largest neurosurgical centers in state. He established one of only two neurosurgical residency programs in the state to train new neurosurgeons. Dr. Hubschmann who specializes in microsurgery for both the brain and the spine is an internationally and nationally respected neurosurgeon, lecturer and author of more than 50 scientific articles and abstracts.
