Michael T. Farr MD, a board-certified general surgeon specializing in wound care and regenerative medicine, joined the RWJ Barnabas Health team in May 2024 after spending two years in private practice general surgery. After earning his undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University, Dr. Farr received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and then completed residency in general surgery between Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, where he served as Chief Resident.
During his surgical residency, Dr. Farr made the acquaintance of Dr. Adam Kopelan, Chair of surgery at Newark Beth Israel and Dr. Harold Brem, Division Chair of Wound Healing and Regenerative Medicine. A shared commitment to quality care, great outcomes, and strong work ethic were core values of all three professionals, which led to Dr. Farr joining the practice.
Dr. Farr specializes in all surgical issues related to wounds including but not limited to pressure injuries, skin and soft tissue infections, diabetic foot ulcers, hidradenitis suppuritiva, non-pressure chronic ulcers including venous stasis related disease, and is certified in hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Feeling a strong connection to the community, Dr. Farr takes great pride in caring for residents in New Jersey. Open communication is a key aspect of his care philosophy. He ensures that he and patients are on the same page every step of the way, with clear expectations and understanding from diagnosis, to treatment planning, and through recovery.
Dr. Farr has privileges at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Trinitas Regional Medical Center, and RWJ Rahway. He serves as medical director of the wound care centers at Trinitas and RWJ Rahway.
When he’s not in the operating room or consulting with patients, Dr. Farr enjoys playing and coaching ice-hockey, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.
