Michael Scoppetuolo, MD, is the Medical Director of The Cancer Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. He currently serves as the chairman of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center’s Cancer Committee. Dr. Scoppetuolo has also served as the chief medical officer for Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center. Board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, Dr. Scoppetuolo has had numerous appointments at institutions such as Cornell University Medical School and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is the past president of the Essex County Unit of the American Cancer Society and the past director of Medical Oncology and Fellowship Program at United Hospital in Newark.
Dr. Scoppetuolo received his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, followed by his medical degree from the University of Health Science/The Chicago Medical School in Illinois. He completed his residency at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and served as chief medical resident at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center before finishing his fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Additionally, Dr. Scoppetuolo served as an adjunct attending on the Solid Tumor Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for 10 years.
A member of numerous professional and civic organizations, he is actively involved in the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Medical Advisory Board, American Medical Association, New Jersey Medical Society, American Association of Clinical Cancer Centers and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. For his efforts, Dr. Scoppetuolo has received many awards including the American Cancer Society President’s Award and Diamond Ball Honoree; Physician of the Year from the Center For Home Health Development and the New Jersey Hospice; and the National Hospital and Palliative Care Excellence in Team Care Award. He has also published several articles in professional publications including Anticancer Research, Cancer Research Reports and Rutgers University Press.
Dr. Scoppetuolo has been selected as Top Doctor by NJ Monthly, NJ Magazine and Castle Connelly.
