    Section Chief, Heart Failure, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist, Professor of Medicine, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

    Dr. Maya Guglin is the full professor and section chief of Heart Failure in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease, Department of Medicine, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH).

    Dr. Guglin comes to us with years of experience in her field and will bring value to RWJMS cardiology programs, having previously served in similar capacity. Prior to coming to the medical school/hospital, Dr. Guglin served as professor of clinical medicine and director of heart failure/heart transplant/MCS services at the School of Medicine, Indiana University and Director of MCS Program in the University of Kentucky. She has extensive clinical experience with appointments at the rank of professor for over 10 years and has established two heart failure programs at the Universities of Indiana and Kentucky. She also established heart transplantation/mechanical assisted circulation programs for clinics and hospitals where she previously served.

    Having achieved her medical degree (MD) in 1984 (diploma cum laude) and doctor of philosophy (PhD) in 1990 from the Volgograd Medical School, Russia, Dr. Guglin furthered her training through residency at Case Western Reserve University in 2000 where she served as Chief Resident, as well as cardiology fellowship in 2003 at the UMDJ-RWJMS, Camden. To solidify her passion for heart failure, she spent several months at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, in 2009 receiving close guidance for heart failure, LVAD and transplantation services.

    To solidify her passion for heart failure, she completed transplant training in the advanced heart failure and heart transplantation program at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, in 2009.

    From a scholarly perspective, Dr. Guglin has produced over 200 publications where she is first or senior author for a significant number of articles. She remains a reviewer for over 10 renowned journals to include the ACC, Heart Rhythm for over 10 years. Dr. Guglin offers leadership to the UK Cardiology Fellowship through committees on clinical competency, fellows selection and program evaluation. She holds membership on a number of national/international cardiology organizations such as ISHLT, ACC Annual Meeting. For the past 3 years, Dr. Guglin has served as Chair on the ACC Council on HF/ Transplantation. She has a passion for clinical care, clinical research, teaching and training students, residents and fellows. On a lighter note, Dr. Guglin appreciates a good sense of humor and poetry while at the same time valuing sincerity, reliability and compassion, all of which are key to providing optimal patient care.
