    Kristen Donohue was born and raised in New Jersey. She completed her bachelors degree at Boston College and then Medical School and General Surgery Training here at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She then went on to a prestigious fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA before returning home to NJ.

    Dr. Donohue is passionate about delivering patient centered care and providing an individualized approach to each patient. She is double board certified in General and Colon & Rectal Surgery. She specializes in laparoscopic and robotic, minimally invasive colorectal procedures, including transanal excisions of rectal tumors. Dr. Donohue’s patients are treated with an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathway to minimize patient discomfort and optimize recovery. Her practice is focused on treating patients with colon and rectal cancer, IBD (Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis), diverticulitis, rectal prolapse as well as common anorectal conditions such as hemorrhoids, anal fissure and fistulae, and advanced endoscopic techniques.

    Dr. Donohue is also involved in education of both General Surgery Residents and Medical Students. She has authored numerous peer reviewed research articles and book chapters. She serves on many hospital and national committees including currently serving as the President of the New Jersey Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Donohue enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, and walking her dog. She believes that the key to providing excellent patient care is to put the patient first, and to focus on cure as well as quality of life.

    Philosophy of Care:

    Dr. Donohue is passionate about delivering patient centered care and individualizing her approach to each patient.  She works at an academic institution, where patients are treated with a care team ranging from medical oncologists, specialty IBD gastroenterologists, radiation specialists and many more.  This team based approach ensures that patients are cared for from diagnosis to cure and all stages in between.

    Dr. Donohue is a double board certified General and Colon & Rectal surgeon.  She treats patients with colon and rectal cancers, IBD (crohns, ulcerative colitis), rectal prolapse and pelvic floor dysfunction, as well as benign conditions such as hemorrhoids, anal fistula and fissures, and numerous other conditions.  She performs minimally invasive surgery, including robotics surgery as well as transanal minimally invasive surgery and advanced endoscopy.
