Jonathan Durell, MD

A graduate of Jagiellonian University Medical School, Dr. Jonathan Durell earned his Doctor of Medicine with Honors in 2008, graduating at the top of his class. He went on to obtain his Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery (FRCS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2020 following completion of his Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Urology training. Dr. Durell then completed the renowned Pediatric Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City in 2022. His clinical acumen and surgical skills have earned him multiple accolades from international courses and conferences. He has active memberships in the International Society of Pediatric Surgical Oncology, the Children’s Cancer and Leukemia Group, the Children’s Oncology Group, the European Society of Pediatric Urology, and the British Association of Pediatric Surgeons.

Dr. Durell specializes in pediatric surgical oncology, minimally invasive surgery, and complex congenital conditions. He has trained and practiced across leading medical institutions in the United States and the United Kingdom. He is currently an Attending Pediatric Surgeon with privileges at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, RWJUH New Brunswick. He has active roles at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

An avid researcher, Dr. Durell has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He has also been an active speaker at international conferences, presenting on topics pertaining to surgical oncology, neonatal surgical outcomes, and management of congenital malformations. Dr. Durell also enjoys being active in medical student and resident education, holding weekly education sessions with students from NJMS and Rutgers NJMS General Surgery Residents, and being a Clinical Assistant Professor at NJMS.
