Gurdeep S. Matharoo, MD

Before starting at Monmouth Medical Center as a surgeon, Dr. Matharoo assisted in the renovations of the hospital’s surgical skills lab, where he supported program leadership in designing and constructing the new lab, as well as consulting with vendors and manufactures of surgical skill trainers and simulators.
Dr. Matharoo earned a medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean in Cupecoy, St Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. He completed both his general surgery residency and his general surgery chief residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. He later completed a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, New York. His clinical interests include minimally invasive abdominal, gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery, as well as trends in laparoscopic surgery and laparoscopy with ventricular assist devices.
Dr. Matharoo is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons New Jersey Chapter, the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. He holds medical licenses in both New York and New Jersey.
