Georgios Petrides, MD

Georgios Petrides, MD, is affiliated with RWJBarnabas Health and serves as the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, NJ. He is a board-certified psychiatrist with over 40 years of experience, specializing in the treatment of severe and difficult to treat neuropsychiatric disorders. He received his medical degree from the University of Athens, completed his residency training as well as fellowships in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Electrophysiology and Clinical Research at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Petrides, is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Dr. Petrides is an internationally recognized expert, researcher and educator in the fields of ECT, Neuromodulation and Psychopharmacology. He has conducted multiple research studies and has received multiple research grant awards by the National Institute of Health (NIH) for studies in Mood Disorders, Schizophrenia, and Dementia. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 scientific peer-reviewed papers and frequently presents his work at national and international scientific meetings. He has trained countless medical students, psychiatric residents and psychiatrists from all over the world in ECT.
He has served as president and officer of the International Society of ECT and Neuromodulation (ISEN) and is the chair of the Taskforce for ECT for the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP) that publishes practice guidelines for ECT.
