    Frank Traupman, MD, FACS, is a general surgeon at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC). He is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He treats all manner of general surgical issues, both through his busy outpatient practice as well as providing emergency surgical care for patients in need at CBMC.

    Dr. Traupman makes use of the latest technological advancements and evidence-based surgical techniques to provide the highest quality surgical care for his patients. He performs a high proportion of his cases utilizing minimally invasive approaches including laparoscopic and robotic surgery to provide superior outcomes with shorter length of stay and high quality of life measures for his patients.

    While treating a wide variety of surgical conditions, Dr. Traupman has a particular interest in hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He has dedicated significant time and effort to learn the most advanced techniques from hernia repair specialists from all across the country. He provides a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open surgery for routine hernias. He has also brought many new techniques to CBMC to treat people with large and complex abdominal wall hernias.

    Dr. Traupman completed his General Surgery Residency at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in 2014 before joining the medical staff. He achieved his Medical Doctorate at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Prior to medical school, Dr. Traupman attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies, receiving numerous awards and honors while a four-year Division 1AA football player.

    Dr. Traupman also devotes a significant amount of time to Graduate Medical Education, helping to train and shape the next generation of doctors and surgeons. In his role as Associate Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at CBMC, he is responsible for didactic teaching, simulation training, and patient related surgical training for all surgical residents at CBMC. He also provides teaching and mentorship to all medical students from both Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and St. George’s University Medical School that rotate through CBMC Department of Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, NJ Chapter American College of Surgeons and Americas Hernia Society.

    Since 2013, Dr. Traupman has made a yearly surgical mission trip to the island of Haiti. Dr. Traupman donates a week of his time, resources, and expertise every year providing medical care and surgical interventions with a multidisciplinary team to the people of the small mountain village of Milot, Haiti.
