- Member of RWJBH Medical Group
Esad Vucic, MD, PhD, is an imaging specialist in the field of echocardiography and Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
Dr. Vucic has a special interest in aortic disease and works closely with the cardiothoracic surgery aortic team on the diagnosis and treatment of aortic diseases. He is focused on the early diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) using advanced cardiac imaging such as Fractional Flow Reserve – Computed Tomography (FFR-CT).
He also works on the development and application of the latest cardiac MRI techniques for structural and valvular heart diseases, aortic disease, atrial fibrillation, congenital heart defects, post-COVID heart disease and cardiomyopathies.
Dr. Vucic plays an integral part of the structural heart team and serves as the advanced imaging specialist on a variety of clinical trials (EARLY TAVR, PARTNER 3, SUMMIT and FUTURE-AS).
He received his medical degree from The University of Tübingen in Germany. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Physiology at Yale University. He completed his internal medicine internship at SUNY Downstate and a residency at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Medical Center.
Dr. Vucic pursued training in advanced cardiac imaging focused on MRI, CT and Nuclear imaging at the Translational and Molecular Imaging Institute, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and during that time he also completed a PhD in biomedical engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.
He has completed fellowships in cardiovascular disease at Mount Sinai Hospital, advanced cardiac imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital and cardiac electrophysiology at New York University. Before joining Newark Beth Israel, he previously worked in private practice in New York and Connecticut.
He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and is board certified in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiac Computed Tomography, Cardiac Magnetic Resonance and Cardiac Electrophysiology. His interests outside of medicine include cycling, running, cooking and travel.
