While there, he was awarded resident of the year during his PGY-2 from the community affiliate, Methodist Hospital, and served as chief resident during his PGY-3. Following graduation, he worked at Methodist Hospital, and served as the Assistant Medical Director for 3 years. Dr. Stander then worked at Ocean Medical Center followed by Nazareth Hospital, where he served as the Medical Director at both locations. After leaving Nazareth Hospital, Dr. Stander spent 12 years as Clinical Service Chief of Emergency Medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital, a level 1 trauma center and tertiary care teaching hospital for Drexel University College of Medicine. While there, he obtained the rank of Clinical Professor, served on several national committees and regional committees, and was deeply involved in teaching residents and students. Over his long career, he has been involved in many hospital and regional committees, was medical director for an Air Ambulance Medivac, helped design and implement new emergency departments, installed electronic medical record systems, was involved in developing state legislature for ED operations, and most importantly helped mentor and train many upcoming physicians. His academic interests involve clinical operations and system design to better improve ED efficiency. He also truly enjoys clinical teaching and is looking forward to many more years of mentoring young minds.
