Dr. Van Kouwenberg completed a six-year integrated Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency program at Albany Medical Center, during which she received multiple awards, including the Resident Academic Achievement Award, the Plastic Surgery Research Award, and the James A. Edmond, MD Award “in recognition of academic and clinical excellence”. Following her residency training, she completed a year of subspecialty training as the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital Orthopaedic Hand Surgery fellow. This highly sought position includes orthopaedic training in upper extremity surgery at the C.V. Starr Hand Surgery Center at Mount Sinai, as well as hand surgery experience with NYU Langone’s Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery.
In addition to hand and wrist surgery, Dr. Van Kouwenberg practices a wide range of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including but not limited to peripheral nerve surgery, targeted muscle reinnervation, microsurgery, extremity reconstruction, oncologic reconstruction, maxillofacial reconstruction, and breast reconstruction. She is dedicated to providing compassionate and individualized care to her patients, while staying up-to-date with health care innovations.
