Chunguang Chen, MD, Director, Non-Invasive Cardiac Laboratory at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, is recognized worldwide in the field of echocardiography. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Hamburg University in Germany, and completed fellowships in clinical cardiology at University Hospitals in Freiburg and Hamburg, Germany; and in research, clinical cardiology, and cardiac ultrasound at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Chen has held staff and faculty positions at leading institutions in China, Germany, and the United States. He is the recipient of many research awards and honors.
Dr. Chen serves as a reviewer for the American Heart Journal, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, the Journal of American Society of Echocardiography, Chest, and The Israel Science Foundation. He is a published author and co-author of numerous articles, reviews, and book chapters, as well as a frequently invited lecturer.
His research interests include: hibernating, stunned or ischemic myocardium; stress echocardiography; Doppler quantification of valvular regurgitation; transesophageal echocardiography; intravascular ultrasound for assessment of progression or regression of atherosclerosis; intracardiac ultrasound for assessment of RV and LV structure and function; and balloon mitral valvuloplasty.
