Dr. Henningson graduated Valedictorian, summa cum laude from Raritan High School in Hazlet, NJ. He then received the full Presidential Scholarship to attend Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, where he earned his bachelors in chemistry, with a minor in physics. He did research in physical chemistry and graduated as the Salutatorian, summa cum laude.

Awarded a Medical Scientist Training Program full scholarship to attend the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, CT, Dr. Henningson received both his MD and his Masters of Philosophy in Genetics degrees. His research involved the interactions between a viral protein and the PDGF growth factor receptor that leads to cancer. He presented his findings at several conferences and in major journals.

Dr. Henningson completed his internship, residency and his Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. During his fellowship he did research on a novel approach to treating cancer by targeting RNA with small molecules. He presented his work at several conferences including the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), American Society for Cinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), and overseas in Japan and Australia. He also published his work in peer review journals.

Although he enjoyed research, Dr. Henningson missed working directly with patients afflicted with cancer and blood disorders so he entered private practice. He joined Regional Cancer Care Associates-Freehold Division in 2013. He is an attending physician at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Ocean Medical Center, where he co-chairs the lung cancer tumor board. He became Board Certified in three specialties Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology and is an active member of ASCO, ASH and IASLC. He has given several talks to other oncology groups in the northeast on lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer and other cancers. In January 2011, he gave testimony at the New York State Senate for the confirmation hearing of his friend and colleague, Dr. Nirav Shar, the new Commissioner of Health for New York State (Governor Andrew Cuomo's administration).

Dr. Henningson believes in both compassionate and high quality care for his patients and aims to achieve that by attending many conferences through the year. He also maintains close contact with many of his mentors and colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania, the Yale School of Medicine and other leading institutes around the country. Through these conferences and his ongoing contacts with mentors and colleagues, he is able to provide his patients with the highest quality care, with the convenience of local care, and the compassion that he has learned from his role models.
