Avani S. Mehta, MD

Avani Mehta, MD, is a radiologist with special expertise in breast imaging. After graduating from Brown University, she received her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Mehta then completed her Residency in radiology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, which included serving time as Chief Resident. Following residency, she received additional fellowship training in breast imaging at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Mehta joined RWJBarnabas Health in 2007. As a physician in the breast center, her responsibilities include interpretation of screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and tomosynthesis as well as performing all breast interventional procedures. Dr. Mehta is part of the team that works to provide high quality breast care in a patient-centered environment.

In addition, Dr. Mehta is involved with training breast imaging fellows. She has been published in multiple peer review articles and is a reviewer for the Journal of Breast Imaging.
