    Dr. Nanda earned his medical degree from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Madras University in India. He completed his residency in Neurosurgery at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in 1989, and then went on to a fellowship in Microneurosurgery and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was mentored by Peter J. Jannetta, MD. In 2012, Dr. Nanda earned a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. As part of his curriculum, he contributed to passing the Louisiana Youth Concussion Law, which requires all schools, clubs and any organization sponsoring youth athletics, to provide athletes and their parents with information about concussions and the potential long-term effects of playing after a head injury. Dr. Nanda served for 27 years as Professor and Chair at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. In 2003 he established a residency training program, currently the largest in the state, and helped facilitate Gamma Knife Radiosurgery and Neuroendovascular programs in the Department of Neurosurgery.

    Dr. Anil Nanda, MD, MPH, has had a distinguished career in neurosurgery, highlighted by his roles as Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Rutgers – New Jersey Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Senior Vice President of Neurosurgical Services at RWJBarnabas Health from July 2018 to April 2022. In 2023, he was appointed Vice President of the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and Editor-in-Chief of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) journal.

    Throughout his career, Dr. Nanda has made significant contributions to the field, publishing over 565 articles in peer-reviewed journals, with a current h-index of 64, and authoring more than 80 book chapters. He has published five books, including “Complications in Neurosurgery,” which has been translated into Spanish and Chinese, and “Principles of Posterior Fossa Surgery.” His extensive surgical experience includes nearly 18,000 surgeries, with 2,000 focused on skull base tumors and aneurysms.

    Dr. Nanda has held numerous leadership positions in professional organizations, including past secretary of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, past president of the North American Skull Base Society, Southern Neurosurgical Society, Society of University Neurosurgeons, and Louisiana State Neurosurgical Society, as well as past second vice-president of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies. He has also served as Director and Vice Chair of the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS).

    Dr. Nanda has been married to his wife, Laura, a practicing attorney, for 33 years. Together, they have three children and reside in Westfield, New Jersey, USA.
