Burn Services
The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center
The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas is the only state-certified burn treatment facility in New Jersey. The Burn Center is equipped to treat pediatric through geriatric burn patients with a full range of specialized services, including a dedicated outpatient department where individuals with small or minor burns receive treatment and discharged patients return for follow-up care.
Burn Step-Down
An 18-bed unit the continues the caring process, as severely injured burn patients begin to recover enough so that they no longer require the specialized care of the intensive care unit. Less seriously injured burn patients may also be admitted directly to Burn Step-down.
Burn Intensive Care
This 12-bed unit is designed to care for the most critically injured burn patients, providing state of the art care in a warm, caring supportive environment. A staff of more than 70 specially trained health care professionals oversees the needs of even the littlest of patients as they struggle to recover from these devastating injuries.
Hydrotherapy
The Burn Center has two state-of-the-art hydrotherapy suites for the management of burn wounds. Designed to minimize the spread of wound infections, hydrotherapy bathes patients, cleans wound surfaces and allows the Burn Team to monitor progression of the healing process.
Outpatient Center
The Outpatient Center for Wound and Burn Healing handles more than 4,500 visits per year for burn care. Specialized burn care is available to even the most minor of burn injuries. Burn surgeons are available to consult or follow up on burn patients who do not require hospitalization but may still benefit from the level of expertise that burn recovery demands.
Rehabilitative Care
To oversee the needs of recovering burn patients, the Burn Center has a special rehabilitation room staffed with highly trained physical and occupational therapists, that is equipped with a variety of machines and devices all designed to prevent a loss in range of motion, optimize the patients’ function and help the patient return to the life they lived prior to their injury.
Peer Support
A vital part of the recovery process, support groups for recovering burn patients, as well as their families and friends, helps these individuals cope with the anger, guilt and frustration commonly seen in the recovery process. Licensed social workers oversee these therapeutic discussions, designed to make sure no one recovers from a burn injury alone.
