For Our Observant Jewish Patients

Observing Shabbat at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center

At Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, it is our pleasure to offer the following amenities during Shabbat and Yom Tov to our patients, guests and visitors who observe Shabbat and Yom Tov.

During Shabbat, elevators number eight and/or nine will be constantly running, automatically stopping at every patient floor. This option is offered for guests observing Shabbat and Yom Tov who may require assistance when traveling to another floor to visit a loved one.

To ensure the satisfaction of observant guests, Cooperman Barnabas offers Kosher meal options. Family members can order a Kosher entrée from the cafeteria for an additional fee. Family members who are bringing in food, may request a refrigerator for the patient's room. Refrigerators are on a first come, first serve basis.

In addition to overnight accommodations, there is a kosher kitchenette and pantry on the second floor of the Medical Center, directly outside of elevators eight and nine.

Overnight accommodations may be provided in a Shabbat Overnight Area for a patient’s family member who is observing Shabbat or Yom Tov. Although candles are not permitted in the hospital, individuals needing electric Shabbat candles should request them from the Patient Relations Department.

To access these services or for more information, please call the Patient Relations Department at (973) 322-5164.

These Shabbat and Yom Tov accommodations are provided through the generosity of Linda and Murray Laulicht.
