About the Medical Center
Since 1865, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) (formerly Saint Barnabas Medical Center), New Jersey’s oldest nonprofit, nonsectarian hospital has worked to exceed our community’s highest expectations for compassionate care, health care excellence and superior service.
Our commitment to excellence is illustrated by our designation from national organizations. As New Jersey’s only certified burn center, CBMC draws adult and pediatric patients from all over the state. The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division is one of the largest kidney transplant programs and the fourth largest living donor program in the United States.
The critically acclaimed Regional Perinatal Center provides care for the smallest high-risk and critically ill infants in New Jersey’s leading Level III, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Our Heart Centers offer a comprehensive array of cardiac services and procedures including Open Heart Surgery and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements (TAVR). The Cancer Center at Cooperman Barnabas, a clinical partner of the Rutgers Cancer Institute, offers a coordinated program including Medical, Surgical and Radiation Oncology with the expertise and compassion to treat a wide range of cancers and disease sites. For those with disorders of the chest, our thoracic surgery team provides the most appropriate minimally-invasive surgical techniques. The majority of patients have video-assisted thoracoscopic, laparoscopic or robotic surgeries to minimize blood loss and reduce postoperative pain resulting in shorter hospital stays and a faster recovery to daily activities.
The Breast Center at the Ambulatory Care Center—one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive breast diagnostic centers—performs close to 60,000 procedures annually with coordinated care and patient navigation to the medical and surgical expertise and services available through CBMC.
Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center has long been recognized as a leader in providing the highest level of patient care-delivering more than 6,000 babies annually, caring for more newly diagnosed cancer patients, creating breakthroughs in the field of infertility, and providing more than 100 medical and surgical specialty and subspecialty services.
Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and the American Medical Association Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The Joint Commission has provided disease-specific care certifications to CBMC for the following programs: Acute Coronary Syndrome, Heart Failure, Stroke, and Hip and Knee Replacement. In addition, CBMC’s Epilepsy program is designated a level four specialty center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers, and its neonatal services have been recognized nationally for quality care.
Among Cooperman Barnabas' nationally recognized facilities are The Burn Center, the Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division, the Heart Centers, the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, and many more. The medical center is a major teaching affiliate of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
CBMC is also a clinical site for Rutgers physician assistant training schools in New Jersey. The medical staff, representing 100 medical and surgical specialty and subspecialty services, shares medical expertise with medical students, residents and fellows.
