Treating Pediatric Brain Cancer
Brain tumors affect children differently than adults because their brains are still developing. The tumors also act differently than in adults and may be more responsive to treatments. Brain tumors are the most common type of tumor in children under the age of 15. They account for about 20 percent of all pediatric cancers, according to the American Brain Tumor Association.
Most childhood brain tumors originate in the brain or spine. In fact, astrocytoma, medulloblastoma and ependymoma are the most common types of pediatric brain tumors.
