Frequently Asked Questions
Emergency Department
Q: Why are some patients taken ahead of others?
A: We see all types of emergencies, from very minor to life-threatening.
Our First Nurse, the first nurse you meet when you arrive, has special
training to sort patients according to how quickly they need to see a
doctor. As a result, patients are not always seen in the order they arrive.
Our goal is to get all patients to see a doctor as quickly as possible.
Q: I have been a patient at Community Medical Center before and you have
all my information. Why do I have to answer questions again?
A: Each visit to the hospital requires a new record. While some information
can be looked up from your previous visit, it is very important that we
verify your personal and medical information every time you visit. We
will also make copies of your insurance and identification cards and your
medication list every visit.
Q: What happens if I don’t have insurance?
A: We treat all patients according to their medical problem regardless of
their insurance or ability to pay. After your medical treatment, if you
do not have insurance you can meet one of our financial counselors to
discuss payment options, including whether or not you are eligible for
charity care.
Q: My doctor told me to come to the emergency department. When will I see him/her?
A: All patients coming to the Emergency Department will be seen by an Emergency
Department doctor. If necessary, the ED doctor will contact your
doctor to discuss your medical problem. If you are admitted to the hospital,
your doctor will take care of you. If you are discharged, you will need
to follow up with your doctor.
Q: Can I get my prescriptions filled while I am in the Emergency Department?
A: No. We have a Walgreens Pharmacy located in the Outpatient Lobby that
you may use. It is open from 9 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. If
you need a prescription filled ask your nurse to contact Walgreens for
you. During non-business hours, there are many local retail pharmacies
that are open 24 hours daily.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to care for you.
