Neuro-Oncology
Community Medical Center offers an intensive and comprehensive approach to the care of patients with tumors of the central nervous system. Utilizing the latest technologies and medical advances, a full spectrum of neuro-oncologic services are provided to treat benign and malignant tumors originating in the brain and spinal cord, as well as neurological complications of cancer that has spread to other regions of the body.
Care is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team that is composed of Sumul N. Raval, M.D., a board-certified neurologist who is among only 200 physicians in the United States fellowship trained in the highly specialized field of neuro-oncology and Stephen Johnson M.D. In coordinating patient care and developing treatment strategies, Drs. Raval and Johnson work in close collaboration with the team’s other members who represent a broad range of specialized fields, including neurosurgeon and radiation oncologists.
Because of the complexity of brain tumors, treatment may include surgery, radiation therapy, radiosurgery and chemotherapy, depending on a number of factors, such as the type, location and size of the tumor, as well as the patient’s age and overall health, with one major goal — to develop the best course of treatment to ensure the best possible outcome.
