Hospital Elder Life Program
HELP is a specialized volunteer program that provides extra attention and care to senior citizens admitted at Clara Maass. Started through a generous grant from The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, our goal is to keep seniors engaged and as comfortable as possible during their hospital stay.
HELP program goals are:
- Maintaining physical and cognitive functioning throughout hospitalization
- Maximizing independence at discharge
- Assisting with transition from hospital to home
- Preventing unplanned readmissions
HELP offers many services, with support from caring volunteers:
- Daily visitor (orientation/reminiscence)
- Therapeutic activities (games, relaxation)
- Early mobilization (range of motion exercises ambulation)
- Fluid repletion and feeding assistance
