Digestive Health

Gastroenterology Services in New Jersey

At the Digestive Health and Wellness Centers, our mission is to provide adult and pediatric patients with the highest quality care and expertise. A digestive disorder is not only uncomfortable, it can also decrease a person’s appetite and make it more difficult for them to get the vitamins and nutrients they need.

Our medical centers combine board-certified physicians and surgeons with the latest technology. From screening to diagnosis to treatment, our gastroenterologists and pediatric gastroenterologists work side-by-side with patients every step of the way until they have fully recovered or can safely manage their condition independently.

Conditions We Treat

We treat conditions of both the upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract. These conditions can be a major interruption to your day-to-day life. If you are plagued with consistent vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, or similar conditions, these could be indicators of a serious, potentially life-threatening, problem.

Upper GI Disorders:

Lower GI Disorders:

  • Change in bowel habits
  • Colon polyps
  • Crohn's Disease
  • Diverticular disease
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Ulcerative colitis

Some of these conditions could be warning signs of colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. You should always consult with your primary care physician if your stomach or bowels act abnormally for more than a week.

Tests and Procedures

Many GI disorders cannot be diagnosed with a standard physical examination and you may require an imaging test or lab analysis before treatment can begin. We are pleased to offer the following tests and procedures:

  • Anorectal ManometryBowel function test for patients with constipation and stool leakage.
  • Barrett’s Radiofrequency Ablation - A safe, minimally invasive procedure that utilizes radio waves to destroy damaged and abnormal tissue in the esophagus.
  • Bravo pH A measure of the degree of acidity in the esophagus primarily used for diagnosing GERD.
  • Capsule EndoscopyAn imaging test that allows the doctor to view the lining of the small intestine. Useful for finding the cause of bleeding, polyps, Crohn’s disease, ulcers, and tumors.
  • Colonoscopy A standard procedure where polyps are located and removed from the large intestine in order to prevent colorectal cancer.
  • EndoFLIP for Dysphagia Diagnosis - EndoFLIP is a minimally invasive medical device used to enhance current procedures such as the endoscopy, and is a technology that simultaneously measures the area across the inside of a gastrointestinal organ such as the esophagus and the pressure inside that organ.
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatogram (ERCP)An examination of the ampulla, or the connecting point between the common bile duct and the small bile. Useful for diagnosing and evaluating abdominal pain and jaundice.
  • Endoscopic Ultrasonography An exam for both the upper and lower GI tract that creates images of the digestive tract so the doctor can check for abnormal growths or lesions
  • Esophageal Dilation Expanding the esophagus to undo narrowing that may have been caused by radiation treatment, cancer, or other factors.
  • Esophageal Motility/Manometry An evaluation of how well the muscles in the esophagus are working. May be recommended if you are having difficulty swallowing.
  • Flexible SigmoidoscopyA rectal and colon examination used to find the cause of abnormal bowel movements or rectal bleeding. It can also be used to screen for colon cancer
  • Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG)The placement of a feeding tube leading directly to the stomach so patients having trouble swallowing can receive nutrients and medication.
  • Spyglass This is a state of the art camera system used to detect and treat stones and other abnormalities in the pancreatobiliary duct system.
  • Upper Endoscopy (EGD) Allows doctors to obtain a visual image of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Often performed for patients with upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing.
