Children’s Specialized Hospital Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation
Children’s Specialized Hospital (CSH) Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility centrally located in New Brunswick, NJ, on the state’s only pediatric academic health care campus. Comprehensive inpatient therapy is provided for children following a serious injury, illness, premature birth, major surgery, chronic illness or pain, or any other life-changing incident.
Our inpatient rehabilitation is specialized for infants through young adults, up through age 21. Each program provides 24-hour medical and nursing care, plus an intensive daily therapy program. The typical length of stay for an inpatient at CSH is 30 days, but this can vary widely based on the diagnosis, child and family, and program.
At CSH, our holistic approach ensures each patient, regardless of diagnosis,
receives care that treats the entire child. CSH focuses on patient-and-family
centered care and employs parents of current or former patients. Our Family
Faculty members understand that a partnership between our families and
clinicians is essential. As employees of the hospital, they are available
to provide support and guidance during your stay.
Pathways of Care
At CSH, we have customized care pathways for rehabilitation and habilitation that flow through multidisciplinary teams and specialized programs.
As we welcome you into our community, you will meet the professionals who will be part of your care team. They will explain the individualized care pathway that will guide you throughout your stay to safely discharge home. The pathways for each team and program are evidence based and focused on your child’s specific needs to meet their rehabilitation goals. CSH is committed to partnering with patients and families by providing care and education through a multidisciplinary approach. Along with your team, you will help to establish a plan and participate in training for a safe discharge.
Discharge planning begins as soon as your child is admitted to CSH. Patients and families are thoroughly educated in preparation for discharge and may participate in a “Ready for Home” trial to simulate what care in the home may look like. A home assessment may be completed to help ensure a smooth and safe transition upon discharge. Planning for follow-up appointments, future therapies, school and community re-entry occur throughout your child’s stay.
