RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an experienced interventional cardiologist to serve as the Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Director of Coronary and Structural Heart Interventions at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC). This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to oversee one of the most advanced interventional cardiology and structural heart programs in the region, driving quality, innovation, and programmatic growth in a high-volume, quaternary referral center.

The ideal candidate will be a board-certified interventional cardiologist with extensive experience in complex coronary interventions and structural heart disease, demonstrated leadership in cardiac catheterization lab operations, and a commitment to teaching, research, and quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Director, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

  • Provide clinical and administrative leadership for the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, ensuring excellence in patient care, quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Oversee diagnostic and interventional procedures, including complex percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), chronic total occlusions (CTO), mechanical circulatory support (MCS), and high-risk PCI.
  • Lead quality assurance programs, including adherence to ACC/NCDR and CMS guidelines, peer review, and protocol development to enhance outcomes.
  • Optimize lab workflow, resource allocation, and strategic growth, ensuring cutting-edge technology adoption and procedural innovation.
  • Collaborate with cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, and heart failure teams to enhance multidisciplinary care and patient selection.
  • Foster a culture of excellence in education and mentorship, supervising cardiology fellows, residents, and allied health professionals.

Director, Coronary and Structural Heart Intervention

  • Lead and expand the structural heart program, overseeing advanced procedures such as TAVR, MitraClip, PFO/ASD closure, LAAC (e.g., Watchman), and other transcatheter therapies.
  • Ensure state-of-the-art procedural techniques and evidence-based care for complex coronary and structural heart interventions.
  • Drive clinical research and innovation, collaborating on trials and registry participation to advance the field.
  • Serve as a key liaison between interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, and referring physicians, promoting programmatic integration and patient access.
  • Guide faculty development, recruitment, and training initiatives, fostering the next generation of interventional cardiologists.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited institution.
  • Board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in interventional cardiology, including complex PCI and structural heart interventions.
  • Proven leadership experience in a cardiac catheterization lab or interventional cardiology program.
  • Strong background in quality improvement, clinical research, and program development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentorship, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Eligible for New Jersey medical licensure.
