Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program
Profound deafness in childhood affects the development of auditory speech perception, speech production, and language skills. Studies have shown that early implantation of cochlear implants is important for producing optimal results in children with deafness. Proper rehabilitation is also an essential piece of the treatment program because it maximizes the hearing potential after cochlear implantation.
The Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital (BMSCH) at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) is a joint collaboration with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) that offers patients and families the unique benefits of a program and treatment from the combined efforts of an academic medical institution and a nationally recognized children’s hospital.
This comprehensive, full-service cochlear implant program is one of only a few of its kind in New Jersey.
