Childbirth and New Parent Education

There are many things to think about as you prepare to have your baby. Not only do you have to think about buying diapers, a crib, an infant car seat and more, but you also need to think about getting prepared for the delivery itself. To make this process easier for you, The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital offers a full complement of childbirth and new parent education classes:

  • Maternity Tours (Free)

    Expectant parents, this complete maternity experience will guide you through what to expect from your first steps into the hospital until you leave our maternity unit with you beautiful baby. Two tours offered each month. Registration required. For details and to register call 1-888-724-7123. 
  • ChildBirth Experience

    A class which prepares new parents to care for their newborn. Safety, growth and development, bathing and feeding are a few of the topics covered. One day, 6-hour session. Offered once a month. Registration required. Fee. For details and to register call 1-888-724-7123. 
  • Preparing and Caring For Baby

    A class which prepares new parents to care for their newborn. Safety, growth and development, bathing and feeding are a few of the topics covered. One day, 6-hour session. Offered once a month. Registration required. Fee. For details and to register call 1-888-724-7123. 
  • BreastFeeding 101

    Get expert advice from our certified lactation consultant on beginning your breastfeeding journey with your newborn. Find out how to tell if things are going well and when to get help. Offered once a month. Registration required. Fee. For details and to register call 1-888-724-7123. 
  • The Start of a Beautiful Friendship

    A family packet, designed to prepare parents and soon-to-be big brothers and sisters for the arrival of a new sibling. Parents will learn tips to help manage their growing family. Big-brothers and sisters-to-be will receive an interactive workbook to express their feelings about the new sibling. For ages 3-10.   • New Moms - New babies Weekly Support Group

    Connect with other moms to share the joys and challenges of new motherhood. With group discussions and speakers we will address such postpartum issues as: sleep deprivation; staying at home or working outside the home; breast feeding; balancing baby’s needs with family’s needs; body image issues; functioning without any personal space; childcare issues. The facilitators are registered nurse/certified lactation consultants. No registration or fee is required. The group meets every Thursday, 12 noon to 2 pm, in the (BMSCH) Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital 1st floor Conference Room. For more information call (732)-253-3871.    

We want you to be ready and to feel confident that you and your loved ones will have a warm, comfortable setting for labor, delivery and recovery. Knowing what to expect when it comes time for labor and delivery can help ease any anxiety you may have about the birth process, especially if this is your first baby.
