A Family-Friendly Environment

In the children’s hospital, Family Centered Care is at the core of everything we do. We believe the child and family are a unit and the family is essential to the child’s well-being and recovery.

In our children’s hospital every room has amenities to give it a home-like feel.

Every room is private, with a separate bathroom and sleeping area for parents.

Video games, DVD players, lounges for adolescents and children, laundry facilities and a full children’s menu are just a few of the amenities.

Throughout the building are special touches that make BMSCH unique, like the surgical suite specially designed to care for children.

A Full Range of Pediatric Specialties

With access to the latest technology and research, parents are drawn to BMSCH. Past the Magic Fountain and through the revolving doors, parents find specialists in all areas of pediatrics. From pediatric surgery, urology and cardiology to oncology, hematology and pulmonology, specialists and intensivists are ready to care for children of all ages from fragile newborns to young adults.

Treatment here goes beyond traditional medicine to care for families too. Our family resource center and child life specialists help patients and families handle the psychological and social impacts that illnesses may cause.

Nursing Care

The Nursing and Patient Services Division of BMSCH provides family-centered care in an environment which promotes healing. The care team consists of registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, and patient care technicians who integrate caring and compassion with evidence-based practices that treat the patient and family.

The excellence in nursing practice is further evidenced by our designation as a Magnet Hospital five consecutive times by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Child Life Program

The Child Life Program is available to assist patients and families in making the hospital experience a positive one, by helping with the overall adjustment to hospitalization, illness or injury and treatment.

A Growing Pediatric Campus

BMSCH is the hub of a growing pediatric campus that provides the most comprehensive care for children.

The nearby Child Health Institute of New Jersey is a center for biomedical research and pediatric care, featuring an ambulatory care center, research laboratories and offices for Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School faculty. Here, scientists, researchers and clinicians converge to study and treat diseases that threaten children.

Next door is the nationally renowned PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital, one of the premier rehabilitation hospitals for children in the country.

The Ronald McDonald House, where families of sick children can live during the child’s hospital stay, is just a short walk away.

To allow our patients to stay current with schoolwork while they are hospitalized and receiving treatments, there is a full time teacher on staff that is supported by the Embrace Kids Foundation. The teaching staff will work with the child, caregivers, and school to provide an individualized academic plan for education needs.
