All RWJBarnabas Health hospitals maintained or increased a letter grade from Fall 2024 ratings awarded by The Leapfrog Group

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade A Spring 2025

WEST ORANGE, NJ, April 30, 2025 – The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits, has awarded seven RWJBarnabas Health hospitals with an “A” rating and five hospitals with a “B.” The “A”-rated hospitals include Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) in Livingston, Community Medical Center (CMC) in Toms River, Monmouth Medical Center (MMC) in Long Branch, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus (MMCSC) in Lakewood, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton (RWJUH Hamilton), Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway (RWJUH Rahway), and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset (RWJUH Somerset). Clara Maass Medical Center (CMMC) in Belleville, Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC) Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBI) and Trinitas Regional Medical Center (TRMC) in Elizabeth all received “B” ratings.

This was RWJUH Rahway’s eighth straight “A” rating and the fifth in a row for both CMC and MMCSC. CBMC improved from a “B” to “A” rating, and CMMC and TRMC each improved to a “B” grade. All system hospitals either maintained or increased a letter grade from the Fall 2024 Leapfrog ratings.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
