Healthgrades America's 250 Best Hospitals 2025 BadgeWest Orange, NJ, January 28, 2025 – RWJBarnabas Health, the state’s largest academic health system, announced today that two of its hospitals — Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset (RWJUH Somerset) — have been named among America’s 250 Best Hospitals for 2025. This is according to new research released by Healthgrades, the #1 site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital.

This achievement reflects the hospitals’ unwavering commitment to exceptional patient care and puts Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and RWJUH Somerset in the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance. Both hospitals were also named to the list in 2024 and are the recipients of many other quality-driven awards and accolades.

“I applaud our talented physicians, nurses, and staff whose hard work and dedication made this recognition possible,” said Andy Anderson, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical and Quality Officer, RWJBarnabas Health. “These RWJBarnabas Health hospitals are part of an elite group of world-class institutions that are setting the bar for clinical quality and exceptional patient care.”

“As part of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset are elevating the standard for quality care nationwide,” added Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “We commend these RWJBarnabas Health hospitals for their ongoing leadership and commitment to providing the best possible care for all patients in New Jersey.”

The hospitals’ achievements are based exclusively on what matters most: patient outcomes. To determine the top hospitals for 2025, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Healthgrades’ annual analysis revealed significant performance gaps between the nation’s highest- and lowest-achieving hospitals, making it increasingly important to seek care at a top-rated facility.

Statistics are based on Healthgrades analysis of MedPAR data for years 2021 through 2023 and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients only. Click here to view the complete 2025 America’s Best Hospital Awards Methodology.
