West Orange, NJ, January 2, 2025 – John W. Doll, Chief Operating Officer of RWJBarnabas Health, has been named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of 118 COOs to Know. The list honors outstanding hospital and health system chief operating officers who lead the charge in crafting and executing initiatives that elevate operational efficiency and fuel success across their organizations. Mr. Doll is recognized both for his accomplishments within the system, and his devotion to shaping health care operations.
With a robust background that spans health IT, consulting, and financial management, Mr. Doll’s business acumen and long-term vision has enabled RWJBarnabas Health to maximize its operations to provide exceptional service for patients and their loved ones. His strategic approach ensures that the system’s resources are appropriately allocated and directed to areas of highest impact.
Mr. Doll stepped into the COO role during a period of significant growth and evolution for the system and has played a crucial role in restructuring the system’s operating model to prioritize service line integration, regionalization, and expansion of the system’s ambulatory services platform. As the system has continued to expand with new facilities and medical group providers, Mr. Doll has championed constant collaboration and alignment. His leadership of RWJBarnabas Health’s Strategic Planning Council has granted facility and service line leaders deeper understanding of system’s organizational objectives.
Mr. Doll has also been a tireless advocate of health outside the hospital walls, encouraging the system and its stakeholders to implement programs that address social determinants of health (SDoH) and increase overall patient wellbeing. Under his direction, the system has invested heavily in addressing adverse SDoH, from earmarking millions for housing and food insecurity initiatives to advancing economic equity through contracts with local, diverse vendors. Mr. Doll has cultivated key partnerships to fund these initiatives, highlighting the long-term business benefits of a proactive approach. He has worked with health insurance providers on programs that address the root causes of disease in order to reduce overall health care spending.
Throughout his 14-year tenure with RWJBarnabas Health, Mr. Doll has demonstrated a constant willingness to adapt and pivot in an evolving health care landscape. A vital presence throughout the pandemic and beyond, his ability to balance long-term, organizational strategy and acute, short-term issues has been key to the system’s operational health.
