She knows everyone’s name and their kids' names—from her fellow nurses to the security guards—and she has a genuine smile for each one of them. Patients request to have her back the next night and gush to our leadership about what a great nurse she is. I have witnessed the positive impact that Jamie has on her patients, whether holding their hand during a difficult or painful time, or simply taking charge of the situation giving confidence in her patients that everything will turn out okay.”

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation was formed by the family of Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease. His widow, Tena, (a DAISY Co-founder) created the acronym, and the Foundation and established the DAISY Recognition Program to honor the super-human work nurses do every day at the bedside.
