With A Flag Raising Ceremony & Community Event
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ, June 6, 2024 – Hospital leadership, medical professionals, team members and special guests, including Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora; Hamilton Township Mayor Jeff Martin; Nina Melker, Chair of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton (RWJUH Hamilton) Board of Trustees; and Suzette Robinson, Vice President and Interim Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer for RWJBarnabas Health, gathered together outside the hospital, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, for a Pride Flag Raising Ceremony and festive celebration in recognition of Pride Month.
Pride Month is a celebration of diversity, equality and the ongoing pursuit of justice and acceptance for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. RWJUH Hamilton is one of 13 RWJBarnabas Health facilities, and one of only 32 hospitals in New Jersey, RWJUH Hamilton is recognized and designated as “Leaders in LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) people.
RWJUH Hamilton was one of three RWJBarnabas Health facilities to be designated for the first time. The distinguished honor of being selected as “Healthcare Equality Leaders” was based on the HRC Foundation’s annual Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), the nation’s leading benchmarking assessment of healthcare facilities identifying healthcare institutions that are leaders in efforts to offer equitable care to LGBTQ+ patients by evaluating inclusive policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ patients, visitors, and employees. The HEI evaluates and scores healthcare facilities on detailed criteria falling under five central pillars: Non-Discrimination and Staff Training, LGBTQ+ Patient Services
RWJUH Hamilton's Community Health Team is also sponsoring a program in observance of Pride Month, and all community members and local area residents are welcome to register and attend. The event information is as follows.
