Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center Ranked First in the State for Cardiology and Cardiac Care, according to Healthgrades
West Orange, N.J. (January 23, 2024) – Two RWJBarnabas Health facilities rank among the top 5 in New Jersey across various specialty care areas, according to a new analysis released by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients. The facilities recognized are Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J. and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset in Somerville, N.J.
Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center ranked first in New Jersey and among the top 5% in the nation for both Cardiology and Cardiac Care and third in the state for Pulmonary Care and Gastrointestinal Surgery. RWJUH Somerset ranked second in New Jersey for both Gastrointestinal Surgery and Gastrointestinal Medical and third in the state for Cardiology and Gastrointestinal Care. Both hospitals ranked among America’s 250 Best Hospitals, according to Healthgrades.
“It is an honor to be recognized by Healthgrades in a number of specialty areas as among the top performing hospitals in the state,” said Andy Anderson, MD, Executive Vice President, Chief Medical and Quality Officer at RWJBarnabas Health. “These rankings are a testament to our dedicated staff and our commitment to providing New Jersey residents with safe, high-quality, comprehensive care and enhancing patient outcomes across our system.”
To determine the top hospitals for 2024, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Unlike other hospital studies, Healthgrades ratings are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. The 2024 Healthgrades analysis revealed significant variation in hospital performance, making it increasingly important to seek care at top-rated programs. From 2020-2022, if all hospitals, as a group, performed similarly to America’s 250 Best Hospitals, on average, 178,402 lives could potentially have been saved.*
“Healthgrades commends RWJBarnabas Health for their leadership and continued dedication to high quality care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “Hospitals with a top 5 ranking in their state deliver consistently superior outcomes for the patients in their community. Consumers should feel confident knowing that they have access to top-ranked care at RWJBarnabas Health.”
Healthgrades’ 2024 analysis revealed that patients who seek care at a hospital with rankings in their condition or procedure have a better chance of a good outcome than if they were treated at a facility that is not among the top 5 in New Jersey.
