Fall might be right around the corner, but it’s not too late to make the most of the last remaining month of summer. Here are some ways David N. Mikhael, MD, Family Medicine physician at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and member of RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group suggests squeezing in those final moments of healthy summer fun.
Get Outside – Make sure to put on some sunscreen (SPF 30 or above) to safely soak up some sunshine and take advantage of the warm weather and extra hours of light before you miss out. Go hiking, biking, swimming, or try a new sport.
Make Plans with Loved Ones – Schedules can fill up quickly once school and sports are back in session. Take advantage of everyone’s remaining downtime and meet up with friends and family. Plan picnics, barbeques, or simple get-togethers.
Eat Local – Enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables from your garden or a local farmer’s market. Try a new recipe with friends over the weekend with fresh ingredients on the grill. Here’s a delicious and healthy one we recommend: Mahi-Mahi Tacos with Lemon Aioli.
Get Out of Town – Exploring new places can be refreshing and inspiring. Plan a final getaway, as simple as a weekend trip, to enjoy time away from home.
Plan a “Staycation” - Be a tourist in your own town. Attend local sports events, fairs, and concerts.
Relax and Unwind – Take some time for yourself. Go for a walk in the park, relax by the pool, or read a book outside.
Prepare for Fall- Check off lingering tasks on your to-do list and organize yourself for the coming season. It can help ensure you feel relaxed and less stressed as the season changes.
