Jersey City, NJ – The Jersey City Puerto Rican Parade honored Dr. Alejandro Romero, an esteemed physician and anesthesiologist at Jersey City Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, as the “Doctor of the Year.” This prestigious recognition celebrates Dr. Romero's outstanding contributions to healthcare, particularly his unwavering commitment to patient well-being, which has set a high standard in the medical community.

With over two decades of experience as a physician, Dr. Romero is Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Jersey City Medical Center, where he plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of patients during surgical procedures. His expertise in anesthesia, pain management, and patient care has significantly impacted the community. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Romero is a known advocate for underrepresented patients, bridging language barriers and promoting equitable access to healthcare.

As Department Chair, Dr. Romero leads initiatives to enhance patient experiences, minimize pain, and improve outcomes. Under Dr. Romero's leadership, the Anesthesia Department has expanded to meet growing needs and areas of specialty, promising a brighter future for healthcare in our community.

The Puerto Rican Heritage Festival and Parade in Jersey City was founded out of a need to ensure cultural identification, and the first Puerto Rican Day Parade was held in Jersey City in 1961. Since that time, the parade has grown from a small marching group into what is considered the largest parade and celebration of culture in the state. It is a testament to the rich and vibrant Puerto Rican culture, diversity, and influence of Puerto Ricans nationally, a source of pride and connection for the community.
