Long Branch, NJ, April 8, 2024 –Monmouth Medical Center has achieved Joint Commission Disease Specific Certification for Total Hip, Knee and Spine in recognition of the program’s commitment to excellence in providing care for joint replacement and spine surgery patients.
“Joint Commission certification for Total Hip and Knee Replacement helps elevate these services with the evidence-based proof of clinical quality sought by patients,” says Spine Surgeon Jason Cohen, M.D., Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at Monmouth Medical Center.
In once again achieving this certification, which the hospital has now held for 13 years, Dr. Cohen notes that Monmouth Medical Center received incredibly positive feedback from the Joint Commission surveyor.
“The surveyor was impressed with the program support from both physician and hospital leadership as well as the great collaboration and teamwork between the various OR departments and the inpatient surgical unit,” Dr. Cohen says. “They also praised us for following the newest researched protocols for enhanced joint replacement recovery, and our great quality indicators.”
Additionally, David Chalnick, M.D., Medical Director of Joint Replacement Surgery, says the surveyor was particularly impressed with community involvement in the program.
“Volunteers who teach at our pre-operative education classes are graduates of the program who have had either knee or joint replacement surgery here and come back to be a part of it because they want to share their great experience with other patients,” he said.
Monmouth Medical Center’s Joint Replacement and Spine Center provides world-class care and treatment options to patients who have experienced pain and limitation of permanent and progressive damage to the hips, knees, shoulders and spine. For patients, whether their pain is due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, trauma, or other joint or spine disorders, they will find life-changing relief under the care of our highly experienced board-certified, fellowship trained joint and spine specialists, according to Dr. Cohen.
“Our comprehensive, coordinated Joint Replacement Program and dedicated Spine Center delivers unparalleled expertise — led by surgeons who have performed thousands of joint replacement and spine procedures with the lowest complication rates and outstanding outcomes,” Dr. Cohen says. “Our numbers say it best, with the leading pain management and outstanding patient satisfaction scores in the state.
