Choosing To Be Happy
There are days when happiness seems pretty hard to find. Stress at home, at work, and negative news stories, can sometimes make it difficult to find the silver lining in the clouds.
Albert Einstein once wrote, “It's not that life has been easy, perfect, or exactly as expected. I just choose to be happy and grateful no matter how it all turns out.” And it turns out that our positive connections and healthy relationships with others make us truly happy.
According to research by the Harvard Study of Adult Development, the biggest cause of long-term happiness is the relationships we form with the people in our lives. By engaging with others at work, at home, and in our communities and practicing generosity, kindness, and forgiveness, we can become happier and more fulfilled.

Four Ways to Make Yourself Happy in 10-Minutes or Less
Even if you’re having a crummy day, there are easy ways to turn things around in just a few minutes:
- Plan an 8-minute call with a friend. It’s just enough time to catch up, yet easy to fit into your day.
- Start a Conversation with a Stranger. We are social creatures that thrive on connection.
- Get to Know Someone at Work. Work friends are important--especially given the high stress and long hours we experience
- Send Someone a Thank You Message. This brightens the day for both of you!
