Heart health awareness will meet high fashion when in recognition of February’s Heart Month, Bridgewater Commons and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, host the “Go RED Fashion Show at the Commons” on Saturday, February 11 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Hosted by stylist Leslie Patrizio, the event, to be held at the mall’s Center Court, will include an exciting, red-styled fashion show featuring heart disease survivors and heath care practitioners from RWJUH Somerset modeling clothing provided by Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s and other select shops at Bridgewater Commons on the red runway. Guests will also be treated to a special live performance by electro-violinist Judy Kang.
“Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, yet most women still think of it as a man’s disease,” said Rachana Kulkarni, MD, a cardiologist at RWJUH Somerset. “And as women, we spend so much time focusing on caring for others, we don’t take the time to care for ourselves. Take a break for this fun event and learn the important things you can do to care for your heart.”
At the start of the fashion show, Dr. Kulkarni will speak about heart disease in women, the unique symptoms women experience when having a heart attack and strategies for good heart health.
RWJUH Somerset’s Community Health Department will offer free blood pressure screenings. Patrick Delaney, Chief Administrative Officer, RWJUH Somerset, and Bridgewater Township Mayor Matthew Moench will also attend and speak at the free, open-to-the public event.
“We’re honored to be working with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset to host a fashion centric event at Bridgewater Commons that will entertain and, most importantly, educate our guests to take care of their health now and for years to come,” said Tom Kovacic, Marketing Director at Bridgewater Commons.
Visible from all levels of the three-story center, the free event is open to the public. Those who RSVP for a VIP seat will receive an exclusive branded gift bag containing special offers from the center’s participating shops and gifts from Bridgewater Commons and RWJUH Somerset. Seating is limited and first come, first serve.
