(New Brunswick, NJ) – The Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) has been named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2023. This prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. This is the second consecutive year the center has earned a place on the Newsweek list.
The America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers list highlights the nation’s top ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) based on quality of care, performance data and peer recommendations, relative to in-state competition. For the first time, ambulatory surgery centers from all US states were included in the survey. The 25 states with the most facilities according to the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) were surveyed individually. The remaining states were grouped into four regions. ASCs from these states were considered accordingly.
“We’re proud to be recognized by Newsweek for the second consecutive year for providing exceptional, quality care for our patients,” said Arlex Matulac, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Vice President of Perioperative Services at RWJUH. “From expanding our ambulatory services via minimally invasive robotic surgery in the center last year, to continuing to deliver excellence via standard of care, the team is focused on keeping our patients safe and comfortable, while taking advantage of the latest interventions in convenience of the outpatient care setting.”
The Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion at RWJUH, located at 10 Plum Street, New Brunswick, is a state-of-the-art, 13,000-square-foot same-day surgery center. It features four operating rooms, one procedure room, a 10-bed post-anesthesia care unit as well as a 13-bed pre- and post-operative area. In 2022, surgeons performed the first robotic surgery case at the ASP and now regularly offer this convenient, minimally invasive surgical option to patients there. In addition to robotic surgery, the multispecialty center offers general, gynecological, vascular, plastic, podiatric, and retina-vitreous surgery, as well as pain management, endoscopy, and orthopedic procedures.
