(New Brunswick, NJ) – The electroencephalography (EEG) laboratory at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has received a fourth, five-year accreditation renewal by the EEG Laboratory Accreditation Board of ABRET (LAB-EEG).
The award is based on an evaluation of the technical quality of the EEGs performed in the RWJUH EEG lab. ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) Neurodiagnostic Credentialing & Accreditation encourages and promotes quality technical and clinical standards worldwide for neurodiagnostic professionals and laboratories through certification and accreditation. ABRET registration requires education, experience and continuous performance improvement covering technical and clinical standards.
“We are proud that our team has achieved this prestigious accreditation for a fourth time,” said Ram Mani, MD, Chief, Epilepsy and Medical Director of Clinical Neurophysiology Lab, RWJUH. “Re-accreditation affirms our team’s commitment to professional development and maintaining advanced skills in their specialty. Neonatal, other pediatric and adult patients can be assured that all of our technicians are dedicated to providing exceptional care and offering advanced diagnostic testing that contributes to better patient outcomes. The quality of the EEG recording, which can vary due to patient, technologist, hardware and other factors, can impact the ability to better diagnose and manage a patient’s seizures.”
As an NAEC Level 4-accredited epilepsy center, RWJUH provides access to a full range of clinical neurophysiology tests, including EEGs.
RWJUH offers noninvasive and invasive video EEG testing for inpatients and outpatients lasting several minutes to days. This can help in seizure detection and management and understanding the basis and level of encephalopathy and coma. The invasive EEG is used to acquire data leading to surgeries to cure epilepsy not controlled by medications.
