HEALTHGRADES NAMES COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTER ONE OF AMERICA’S 50 BEST HOSPITALS FOR SURGICAL CARE
Community Medical Center is the only NJ hospital to earn Healthgrades' Surgical Care Excellence Award in 2023.
Toms River, NJ – November 17, 2022 –Community Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, announced that for a second year in a row (2022-2023), it is one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Surgical Care, according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients. This achievement reflects Community Medical Center’s outstanding clinical outcomes for surgical care and puts Community Medical Center in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for surgical care. Community Medical Center is the only hospital in New Jersey to earn a Surgical Care Excellence Award in 2023.
Additionally, the hospital earned Five Star Ratings in several related categories:
- Five Star Recipient for Pacemaker Procedures for 8 Years in a Row (2016-2023)
- Five Star Recipient for Total Hip Replacement for 4 Years in a Row (2020-2023)
- Five Star Recipient for Hip Fracture Treatment for 21 Years in a Row (2003-2023)

Earlier this year, Healthgrades named Community Medical Center as one of only 17 hospitals nationwide to receive all three Women’s Care Excellence Awards for Obstetrics and Gynecology, Labor and Delivery, and Gynecological Surgery. The hospital was also a Five Star Recipient in Vaginal Delivery, C-Section Delivery and Hysterectomy.

Healthgrades evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 31 of the most common conditions and procedures at nearly 4,500 hospitals across the country to identify the top-performing hospitals for specialty care. This year’s analysis revealed significant variation in patient outcomes between America’s 50 Hospitals for Surgical Care and hospitals that did not receive this distinction.
