In honor of Women’s History Month, a conversation with African American women who are leaders at RWJBarnabas Health was held on March 25, 2021 on the intersectionality of being Black and a woman, the need to “shift” or code-switch, and how this behavior contributes to “weathering” and its effect on health outcomes. In a panel session moderated by Stacie Newton, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, executive leaders that included Atiya Jaha Rashidi, MHA, RN, Chief Equity Officer/VP, Community Relations, NBIMC, Dr. Meika Neblett, Chief Medical Officer, Community Medical Center and DeAnna Minus-Vincent, MPA, Senior Vice President, Chief Social Integration & Health Equity Strategist, shared the unique concerns that Black women who are leaders in their field encounter–including ‘code switching’ and its effect on health outcomes.
