Next up in our We Are RWJBH Nurses series, meet James Spivey, a behavioral health nurse and member of our Clara Maass Medical Center team.
“I am a nurse because I want to influence change,” says James. “I advocate for my patients at their most vulnerable times and I’ve seen how mental health care can really help people.”
Our behavioral health nurses have experienced, first-hand, the profound mental health fallout from the pandemic, including an increase in substance use, depression, loneliness, anxiety, grief and loss. “The pandemic has affected individuals, families and communities in different ways,” says James. “My team has coped with the increased demand for mental health services by taking care of each other so that we can give our all to our patients.”
Behavioral health nurses practice therapeutic communication to build relationships with patients and work as a team to come up with the best treatment plan. “I am proud to be a RWJBH behavioral health nurse, working with supportive colleagues and people I love.”
