Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has moved its Cardiac Diagnostic Testing Department to newly renovated space on the hospital’s second floor. The new 10,000-square foot location comprises six patient bays and eight procedure rooms along with a bright, modern waiting area.
“Our new Cardiac Diagnostic Testing Department offers enhanced comfort and convenience for our patients as well as the latest technologies needed for timely, accurate diagnoses,” said Tony Cava, president and chief executive officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. “We are committed to improving the heart health of our community.”
The department features a new state-of-the-art single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scanner, a nuclear imaging device which uses a radiative tracer and a special camera to create high resolution 3-D images of the heart. These images help doctors diagnose heart disease, identify heart damage after a heart attack, find blocked arteries and assess how well the heart is pumping blood. The new SPECT scanner offers a larger opening than other scanners, which can comfortably accommodate patients weighing up to 500 pounds and critically ill patients with limited mobility.
Among the other cardiac diagnostic tests offered in the department are angiograms, computed tomography (CT) scans, echocardiograms and ultrasounds.
The Cardiac Diagnostic Testing Department is conveniently accessed via an elevator just off the hospital’s main lobby and is on the same floor as the hospital’s recently renovated Cardiology Pavilions (2-East and 2-West), Critical Care Department and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
In addition to diagnostic testing services, RWJUH Somerset’s cardiology services include emergency and elective coronary angioplasty, cardiac catheterizations, pacemaker implantation and a three-phase cardiac rehabilitation program.
The hospital has received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its acute myocardial infarction program and has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as “high performing” for the treatment of congestive heart failure. Its Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory earned five stars from Healthgrades for pacemaker implantation.
